On October 12, celebrate the weekend of Indigenous Peoples Day with musical performances and a curator talk at Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation.
🥁 DRUM AND DANCE PERFORMANCE | 12:45-1 p.m.
Members of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi and Pokagon Band of Potawatomi will open our program with an Anishinabek presentation that will include music, dance and conversation.
💬 CURATOR TALK | 1-1:30 p.m.
Heather Bruegl (Oneida/Stockbridge-Munsee), The Henry Ford’s curator of political and civic engagement, will present “The Land Doesn’t Forget.” She will discuss how all the land that makes up the United States is Indigenous land. Learn about the policies that removed Indigenous Nations from their homes and pushed them onto reservations, and understand modern-day movements to regain this land.
🥁 DRUM AND DANCE PERFORMANCE | 1:30-2:15 p.m.
Following the curator talk, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi will close out the program with a continuation of their drum and dance presentation.
Both performances and the curator talk will take place in the Museum Plaza. These programs are free for members or included with museum admission.
